I can hear the groans from here. You’ve got a business to run, and that already takes up 110% of your time and effort. How on earth are you supposed to find time for this? All I can say is that a little time and effort now can pay big dividends right now — and bigger ones down the road

There are a million-and-one ways to make it easier for your business to get found on Google (and the other search engines). Let’s keep it simple today and look at three.

Content Optimization

Yes, this is where search engine optimization comes into play — and today it’s all about relevancy. Is your content providing a benefit to the reader? 

Here are three key things for your optimization ToDo list:

  1. Create unique and relevant content.
  2. Optimize your site for mobile.
  3. Tie your content to a Google+ profile!

Social Media

Are you rolling your eyes? Stop that! You should be involved with social media because your target audience — no matter who that is — regularly uses at least one social media platform

It’s hard to get on the first page of search results for very competitive keywords. One way to get around that is to rank your business highly within a local business directory.

Chances are you’ll see some of the “big dog” directories like Yelp or Angie’s List or Superpages or Yellow Pages taking up the top slots. People click on those links, and if your business shows up at the top of the list within that directory … score!

So, here’s your quick and dirty action plan:

  1. Create or claim listings for your business within appropriate business directories
  2. Optimize those listings
  3. Establish a presence on Google+.
