Google Local Tip: How To Eliminate Duplicate Places Listings

map icon markersHave you heard from Google that you have duplicate listings on Google Local? Do you see multiple results for the same location in the Google Maps search results when you look for your business online? Maybe you haven't heard from Google but have noticed more than one listing in your Google Places account for the same business location?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, you're in violation of Google's quality guidelines and it's time to do a little online housekeeping.

Multiple Google Maps Results

You're only 3 steps away from resolving this issue:

  1. Claim one of the listings in Google Places.
  2. Go to the local listings page for each additional listing and click on the Report A Problem link.
  3. The rest is up to Google. They'll review your report and fix each duplicate listing.

Same Location in Multiple Places Accounts

Follow this process to ensure you have only one listing across all your Places accounts:

  1. Select your preferred listing.
  2. Be sure you've provided enhanced content like photos, business description, business hours etc. to that preferred listing.
  3. Make the listing status "Active".
  4. Delete all the other listings for your business from your Google Places account.
