Business Internet Marketing Strategies for You

Online Reputation Management And Google: 3 Tips

Posted by Deborah Young

Your Online ReputationWe all know that Google is the big dog of search engines. It's where most people go to look for things online - including you. So, it stands to reason that if you control what people see on Google you go a long way toward getting a handle on your online reputation management. With that in mind, let's look at three things you can do to manage your reputation with Google.

Search for Yourself

I know. Doh! But really, this is a great place to start. Take the first step. Search for yourself and get it all on the table - good, bad or in between. Before you can fix things - or see that your online reputation's in great shape! - you have to know where you stand.

Get Rid of the Bad Stuff

You probably found something when you searched that shouldn't be out there. It could be as simple as incorrect personal information like a phone number or address. It might also be a photo or a video you'd rather not be visible to the world. But how do you make it go away?

First you need to figure out who controls the content: you or someone else. If you control it, it's a pretty easy fix - and probably just a matter of fixing a typo or changing privacy settings on an account like YouTube or Picasa. If someone else has published the content, it's more difficult but not impossible.

Keep An Eye On The Situation

Did you know it's possible to get notified every time something new gets published about you? Yep, there's a bot for that so you'll know whenever your name or email address or other personal information about you gets published.

Google has other suggestions for keeping or improving your online reputation. Check them out to ensure your name isn't mud on the internet.

P.S. If you're looking for a little help, our strategic marketing consulting is designed to show you the online marketing strategies that help keep the customers you have while generating more and better leads. That process begins when we improve search engine ranking, devise the best social media campaigns, develop your app or put other mobile online marketing strategies to work for your business.
