  1. Make only relevant, informative points.
  2. Be responsive.
  3. Post at least twice a week.
  4. Automate your activity.
  5. Think locally.

What 7000 Businesses Discovered About Social Media We part ways on her final suggestion: When all else fails, hire an intern.

I'm afraid in this case you will get what you pay for.

Are young people proficient and persistent users of social media? You bet.

Do they know how to engage their friends? Absolutely.

What they won't "get" is how to persuade social media fans and followers to take the next step and become your customers. That takes a bit of marketing savvy that most interns just won't possess.

My recommendation? Following the first five points is better than nothing -- but to turn leads into loyal customers you need some professional marketing help.
