Business Internet Marketing Strategies for You

Content Marketing Services for Your Business: Content Optimization

Posted by Deborah Young

You’re being paid not only to get more traffic on your company’s website but also to get the right traffic. We hear a lot of talk in online marketing circles about optimization — and for good reason. If you don't optimize your content who knows what your online audience will look like  if you have an audience at all.

Of all the content marketing services you need, search engine optimization is the real key to driving more traffic. And that job is best left to the SEO experts. Why? Because if you don't do it well the right people may never find your website.

If the key to driving more traffic is good SEO then what’s the key to good SEO? That would be relevant and meaningful content — and the cornerstone is your blog.

When we say content marketing services, we don't necessarily mean you have to go out and hire a digital marketing agency. This three-part series is designed to offer content marketing tips that will help you do it yourself or know what questions to ask as you look for the perfect internet marketing company to assist your efforts. We hope you find it useful. In Part 1 we talked about content marketing strategy and where to get good content creation and blog post ideas. Part 3 looks at inbound methodology and why you should consider it.

Why is a Blog Such a Great Content Marketing Service?

You’re not likely to find anyone out there who has written a blog post that thinks blogging is easy. It’s not, but as content marketing services go; it is one of the best ways to get more traffic to your website. And that’s the first step toward more (and better!) leads and, eventually, sales.

When optimized properly, that is. Otherwise, you’re dumping time, effort and money into a black hole.

What else does blogging do for you? Plenty:

  • It presents you as an expert.
  • It creates more pages and new content on your site, both of which the search engines love.
  • It creates a way to get more inbound links, also loved by the search engines.

A blog is a “must have” for any website, but you have other content out there, too. And all of it needs to be optimized.

Links. Keywords. Page 1 rank. Back in the day these were the things you thought about most when optimizing your web site.

Don’t get me wrong. You still have to think about those things, but they shouldn’t be your main or only focus.

Now more than ever you need to present relevant content. The search engines have gotten much better at reading between the lines, so if your content is relevant and presented in a coherent way you don’t need to worry so much about using exact keywords.

Google knows what you’re talking about and will present your content as an option for people who have shown an interest in it.

If you consistently provide a tangible benefit to the visitors to your website, they will come. Or, more precisely, Google will send them. The key is to be consistent over the long haul.

Seven Things to Consider When Optimizing Content

  1. Create unique and relevant content.
  2. Think about “keywords” and “link building” in a new light.
  3. Understand your intended audience.
  4. Don’t add content just to add more content.
  5. Test your pages in different browsers before publishing.
  6. Make sure you optimize your site for mobile.
  7. Tie your content to a Google+ profile. (Create a profile if you don’t have one yet!)

The More Things Change …

The bottom line with optimization is that Google (and the other search engines) wants the same thing today that it has always wanted: a great experience for its users. And the best way for Google to provide that is with links to relevant content … your relevant content!
